Three Important Things to Know About Trump’s “Travel Ban”

IMG_8757Following the terror attacks in London over the past weekend, President Trump tweeted out his support for his “Travel Ban.”  Trump tweeted: “We need to be smart, vigilant and tough. We need the courts to give us back our rights. We need the Travel Ban as an extra level of safety!”

President Trump originally released his “Travel Ban” on January 27, 2017.  The Executive Order that Trump set in place put a temporary ban on immigration to the US from seven countries.  This temporary ban was 90 days, and the seven countries included were Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.  The Executive Order also included an indefinite halt on refugees coming from Syria.  Following this EO, the left did what it does best: they screamed as loud as they could.  They called the EO un-American, unconstitutional, islamaphobic, racist, zenophobic, etc.  They used all of the words in the Social Justice Warrior dictionary.  The Executive Order was later blocked by two federal judges – one in New York and another in Massachusetts.  The Trump Administration then took its case to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The Ninth Circuit ruled against Trump’s “Travel Ban” and the EO remained blocked.

On March 6, 2017, President Trump released his new “Travel Ban.”  The new ban temporarily blocked immigration to the US from six Middle Eastern countries. Once again, the ban was only set for 90 days, and it included six of the seven countries from the first EO that was blocked by the Courts.  The one country that was not included in this new ban was Iraq.  The new ban also included the haltage of all refugees coming to America for 120 days.  Once again, leftists across the country lost their minds.  Just like the first “Travel Ban,” the second ban was also blocked by federal judges.  After the blockage of the second ban, the Trump Administration did not really push another travel ban out.

This changed after the terror attacks in London.  President Trump has been pushing hard, through Twitter, for his “Travel Ban.”  This caused the left to come out and use their common phrases such as islamaphobic, xenophobic, and racist.  They are still calling the ban unconstitutional, because it targets Muslims.

Here are three things that you need to know about Trump’s so called “Unconsitutional, Islamaphobic Muslim Ban.”

1. Trump’s “Travel Ban” is neither unconstitutional nor illegal.  Although the left has been decrying Trump’s “Travel Ban” efforts as unconstitutional, they are not.  The left claims that the ban is unconstitutional, because it violates Muslim foreigners’ First Amendment Right of Freedom of Religion.  No.  The United States Constitution only applies to United States citizens.  It only protects the right of Freedom of Religion of United States citizens.  It neither applies to nor protects people from other countries.  So, the argument of “this ban is unconstitutional, because it violates foreigners’ first amendment rights” just simply does not hold.  It does not hold, because foreigners do not have constitutional rights, meaning that they do not have first amendment rights as well.

This should be the end of the discussion.  But to provide an even more convincing argument, I will add more details regarding the legality of Trump’s “Travel Ban.”

According to 8 U.S. Code § 1182 (f), “Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”  Trump issued this Executive Order, because he thought that these counties were unsafe, and people coming from these countries could be a danger towards the American people.  Trump was right.  These countries are terror rich, and full of Islamic jihadis.  ISIS has even said that they are going to sneak in Islamic fighters into the groups of immigrants coming to America from these countries.  Former FBI Dircector James Comey even said that America’s vetting system was inefficient, and that it could not vet all of the immigrants coming to America from these countries.  That is why Trump issued this temporary travel ban for these countries.  Not because he hates all Muslims, but because we can not effectively vet all of these people coming to America from terror rich countries.

It is also pretty hypocritical of the left to call Trump’s EO unconstitutional.  In 2011, President Obama temporarily banned refugees coming from Iraq to America for six months.  WHAT!!!  Obama would never do something of that sort.  Yes, Obama did do that, and no one on the left called it unconstitutional, because it was not.  Obama saw those refuges as being a direct threat to the American people and America’s national security.  Obama was right in doing that, and so is Trump in doing what he’s doing right now.  Both are perfectl constitutional and legal.  Both protect the American people and America’s national security.  But I guess that because Trump has a ‘R’ next to his name instead of a ‘D,’ he can not sign this EO.

2. Trump’s “Travel Ban” is not a “Muslim Ban.”  It has no wording in it that goes “all Muslims are banned from entering the US.”  In 2010, the most populated Muslim countries in the world were Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Algeria, Morocco.  Out of the top ten most populated Muslim contiries in the world, only one of them – Iran – made it on Trump’s “Travel Ban.”  If Trump truly wanted to ban Muslims from coming to America, wouldn’t he start by banning immigrants from countries with the highest number of Muslims in them?  Yes, and this simple list of ten countries proves that Trump’s “Travel Ban” is not a “Muslim Ban.”  Trump picked these seven countries, not because they had Muslims in them, but because they were terror rich countries and they were listed by the Obama Administration as “countries of concern.”

3. The seven countries that Trump originally listed in his first EO, were countries that Obama called “countries of concern.”  The Obama Administration was correct in listing these countries as being dangerous.  These countries are full of Islamic jihadis and terrorism.  They are highly dangerous.  And if anyone should be called xenophobic or islamaphobic, shouldn’t it be Obama?  He is the one who named these countries as being dangerous.  Just because Trump is doing the same thing, while adding a temporary 90 day ban on immigration from these countries, and a halt of Syrian refugees coming to America, he is the one labeled a bigot?  The left’s ideology and reasoning is just highly confusing.

Trump’s “Travel Ban” is legal and constitutional.  Despite what the left says, it is not a “Muslim Ban.”  These seven countries that Trump looks to temporarily ban immigration from, are the seven countries that the Obama Administration regarded as “countries of concern.”  I think that the left should quit its whining for just a second, and realize that Trump’s “Travel Ban” is constitutional and legal, it’s not a “Muslim Ban,” and that Trump picked these seven countries from the Obama Administration’s list of “countries of concern.”
