Here we have one sexual assaulter praising another. I’m just going to pick out my *favorite* comments from the USA Today piece.
“Millions of Americans have been affected by Fox News, no doubt about that. In a nation where the national press is generally sympathetic to the left, Fox gives voice to a more traditional point of view that other TV news operations historically ignored. That is a very good thing for our republic, and Roger Ailes is directly responsible.”
Yes, I would have to agree that millions of Americans have been affected by Fox News. Which I believe is unfortunate. However, I would argue that the “national press” is pretty far down the middle from my own media experience, and I know liberal bias when I see it (I’m looking at you, MSNBC). However, Fox News is farther to the right than MSNBC is to the left, and extraordinarily more than down-the-middle CNN. Even I sometimes get irritated with CNN being too sympathetic to conservatives, so I think that’s saying something. Also, I wouldn’t call hate rhetoric as well as alternative facts a “traditional point of view”. There’s a reason that racism, homophobia, as well as Islamophobia are not accepted on mainstream news networks. I would also argue that enabling the validation of these evil thoughts is one of the worst things possible for our republic. However, yes, we can thank Roger Ailes.
“We are living in a rough age, with technological advances changing behavior and perspective. The downside of that is turning us into a nation where hatred is almost celebrated in some quarters.”
Technological advances changing perspective? Like Fox News? And where is hatred celebrated? Fox News!
“Roger Ailes experienced that hatred and it killed him.”
Yet Ailes has given hatred a voice on his network and has most likely indirectly fueled many, many hate crimes and evil thinking. He deserved hatred in the least.
